Church Camp

Summer always reminds me of church camps. Our family has consistently gone to church camp since 1997. My kids participated in Youth Camp and Teen Camp. It was something they looked forward to every year. What comes to mind with church camp? For me, it is great preaching, singing, camp food, catching up with people that we only see one time a year, meeting new friends, hot weather, at least one thunderstorm with tree limbs down everywhere, Pastor Doug telling me that I didn’t have to be pregnant or have a newborn every year at camp, running the camp bookstore for many years, my friend David praising God and swinging his suit jacket above his head, and my friend Roberta telling me she has been praying for my church (both David and Roberta are now rejoicing in Heaven). Walking the campgrounds is such a peaceful experience and it feels like you have stepped on holy ground. Maybe your church camp feels that way, too. I hope so! This year, my home church camp is making some much needed improvements, such as replacing the 1970’s orange-striped carpet with laminate flooring and replacing the toilets with water saver toilets. Church camp does not have to be limited to your home camp. This year, we are also attending a church camp in Alabama, where we will make new friends, relax, and be fed spiritually. What special memories do you have from church camp?
